Tunnel formworks are used in structures in which the shear walls take place of columns and beams. In this system slabs and concrete walls are poured together. By the help of tunnel formwork systems it is possible to construct earthquake resistant buildings in shorter time. This is important for Turkey because great majority of its cities are on active eathquake zones.

Half Tunnel Formwork; This type of formwork is built with the combination of one side of shearwall and half size of deck forms. Functionally two half tunnel formwork corresponds to one monolithic tunnel formwork. Both types can be either hydraulic or mechanical for setting and dismanteling.

Altough the cost is higher according to other formwork systems, tunnel formwork saves labor and increases the speed of construction. The result will be lower costs and more durable buildings.

Monolithic Tunnel Formwork

Monolithic Tunnel Formwork is generated with the combination of deck slab with the wall forms facing to each other at both sides of the room.

1) Formwork of side wall

2) Horizontal surface

3)Truss

4) Stringer connection

5) Hydraulic crab

6) Fixing part

By using monolithic tunnel formwork for single dwelling along with a crane and crew of 8 workers it is possible to produce one dwellin per day. If hydraulic equipments are used, all the structural members of a building with 150-180 m2 area can be completed with the same work force.
